Lisa and Richard
Are the plan today. Before that I want to
- visit a game store (no reason, just for fun, kind of a niche-cultural checkin)
- visit Mitzi’s — the café in Parkdale started by a friend. Maybe I’ll be able to get a nice coffee? With luck I’ll see Lesli and her partner.
Mitzi’s is just a couple of blocks from Lisa’s, so I’ll go there and visit with Richard until Lisa is home at 6ish.
I slept in today, past 9am. The light was deceptive— I thought it was 7:30.
Tried some canadian apples. Pink Ladys aren’t as nice here. Honeycrisp are good— but they’re a bit sweet for my taste. McIntosh have a great flavour, but are a bit mealy sadly. Whatever I’m eating now, too sweet, decent texture, but nah.
Here is a picture of Kirstie and me taken by Addie last Friday.
plan meets reality
Meeplemart, the games store, was, hands down, the best game store I’ve ever seen. I asked for a few things, which they didn’t have, but that was fair enough because they were older out of print or newer not yet in print. Weirdly enough I walked by the place the other day without noticing.
I picked up Coloretto as a gift for Lisa and Richard, that we could play while chatting. It’s always fun.
By the time I finished at the game store it was after 3, and Mitzi’s was set to close for 4, so I gave up on that idea for today. Lisa arranged a table at a board game café, of which Toronto has several, but it was for 6:30, no option for earlier.
I decided to ride the tram up and down Spadina, since most of my previous life in Toronto was lived close to it.
Toronto was were I first appreciate cities as living things, symbolised for my by juxtaposition of new and old, concrete and nature, with graffiti in the gaps.
The highrises now stretch west of Spadina— that’s new. And there’s lots more density near the waterfront. It used to be more warehouses.

These are the sort of views that I love.
New business opportunities for native people. Interestingly, I just learned about the Toronto Purchase, a land settlement with the Mississaugas of the Credit, for money owning from the original purchase agreements for the land for Toronto. It was finalised in 2010. Seems reasonable?
As it turns out, Board game cafés aren't that niche any more. The place was huge,
with a good selection of games.
