Sept 21 again
Time may have moved on in Australia, but not here. We're just about to land in Toronto, and it's about 6:30 in the evening. I slept most of the way from Vancouver even though my hip was hurting. It was hurting more (or more annoying) when we were just sitting in the plane waiting to take off for an hour.
Customs was done really quickly in Vancouver-- we got special treatment because we had to make connections. That part was quick and largely automated. The person that took the printed receipt said "you live in Australia?" "Yep" "Have a nice trip".
Oh the sadness of waiting for your bag after the first bunch have arrived.
All the announcements and signs are in English and French. C'est bon. Je suits canadien.
There's a train from the airport to union station. I was going to take it, get the subway up to university, then take the college car across Gerrard and walk up the block from the corner to get to Adriana's house. But I'm zonked, it's dark outside now, I've been travelling for 30 hours and I'm still waiting for my bags (along with 100 other people).
So I was waiting with other people for luggage for close to 3 hours. Some of them had bag tags which said their luggage was 400m away. General frustration all around, got to whinge in both Australian and Canadian. But I lined up at the poorly named baggage services counter and they tell me that mine was flagged in Vancouver, and was still in Vancouver. Why didn't they email or message me? The people with smart bag tags convinced "services" people to find them. It took about 15more mins for them to locate the container. I stuck around hoping mine would be with them, but no such luck. Anyway, they got theirs which was gratifying.
Now in cab to Adriana's. 7 hours later than planned. Will need to get some clothes tomorrow if I don't hear from my luggage. I packed spare undies at least. But my sleep machine is with my luggage. 33 hours in transit. I should sleep tonight at least and be more adjusted to the time difference.
My phone esim works. Yay.
