Family News
Woke up a little worse for wear, but around sunrise 7:30am. Here is the view from the room-- my old bedroom.
Sat around with Knox the giant puppy.
Jordan and Nicky are hiking around Italy with some friends. They’ll be back a few days before the wedding.
Addie looks after people’s pools. She’s living in Kirstie’s basement with her boyfriend which the family have done up as an apartment. It’s amazing— lots of work Paul and some mates did in sealing it from the damp.
Liam looks after water treatment in heating/cooling systems. maybe hydronic? Adds chemicals to make sure the closed loop of water circulation doesn’t become a breeding ground for bacteria.
Both of their work trucks occupy one lane of the driveway, and Kirstie and Paul’s cars the other. It’s like that scene in The Castle.
The road is prettier than I remember.
They got rid of the wall between the kitchen and the back extension and redone the kitchen; it looks great and makes so much sense.
They’ve also built a great patio/barbeque area out back. That’s where we hung out last night until it got too cold for the Canadians, and the kids hung out round the firepit with their friends.
The rest of the house is still the same.
Liam is looking after Jordan’s house and dog while they’re away. The dog is a Great Dane named Knox— and he’s huge, and acts a bit like a puppy, and practically knocks you over when he leaps up. Very friendly.
Kirstie works three days a week from home.
The trees in the backyard are huge. I remember them when they were much smaller.
Kirstie is going to give me the embroidery Connie did— will it be ok to roll it up? Suggestions welcome.
Today I think the plan is to hang out and drive around a bit, visit Jordan’s house.
The day after the wedding the family will come back to Kirstie’s for a barbeque. It will be the first time Cheri, Brett, Emily, Kirstie and I have all been together since? Forever maybe? I was already living in Toronto when Emily was born; I was the same age Liam is now (22). I don’t remember any joint vacations, just trading notes about our separate experiences. So that will be something special.
We went for a little drive round town. There's a few houses they call Claremont Castles. Over the top.
They've rebuilt most the the school-- the schoolyard has trees. This is a picture of some nice trees across the road from the school.
Claremont has its own pot shop.
