Newfoundland
So maybe drinking late with Richard and Lisa and then going to the airport for 230ish, then sitting dozing in an uncomfortable chair for my 630 flight wasn't the most amazing bestest plan ever? I feel quite strung out and very tired.
Maybe I'll catch a couple of hours on the plane?
I did sleep on the plane. It's only a 3 hour flight, nothing for a seasoned traveller like myself 🤪.
People have adapted quickly to the relaxation of mask rules. Not a mask in sight.
I took a cab to Chris’ house. St. John’s is quite spread out and not very dense. It also feels old; I didn’t see a lot of new houses.
Chris' house is the one on the left.
Chris wasn’t home (I realised I hadn’t told him when ai was coming, so I left a message and found a coffee shop for a coffee and muffin. I also picked up a loaf of still warm sourdough as a gift when I saw how many people were buying it. The town is quite hilly.
The houses have great colours-- Chris thinks this started in the 70s.
Chris called a few minutes later (he’d been figure skating), and I met him back at his house. The house is beautiful, so many nice elements, and Chris has done his usual high standard of decoration/painting.
Lots of stairs though. This is the view from his work room on the 3rd floor (1st is ground).
Upstairs bath
The guest room where I stayed.
Coloured glass on internal doors.
There is a basement apartment he will redo before renting. The way it's cut into the hill it's not underground, so it's well lit.
We went out for fish and chips and a pint (Chris thinks their fish and chips is the best evar, crunchy on the outside soft snd moist on the inside).
This shows the other end of Chris' building.
After we went back and I showered, changed snd napped briefly. Then we went out for a wander.
It reminds me a bit of Hobart. Lots of older buildings, not much density.
I love the colours.
Cutesy mailboxes are a bit of a thing.
We walked down to the harbour.
There's no need for high rises.
Downtown.
The cannabis shops fit in with the old world style.
This is the pub we had dinner at.
